Using Rosemary in Your Home

There are more noble pursuits than trying to keep a rosemary plant alive, but I’m here to tell you, after 365 days in my possession, the plant is still alive and thriving at that. Big win if you ask me. That said, I’ve been experimenting with different ways to use rosemary in the home apart from cooking. One of my passions is creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in the home and stumbled upon some simple benefits of infusing these aromatic green leaves in my living space.

Rosemary isn't just a flavorful herb; its essential oil can also be used in natural home cleaning solutions, offering several benefits:

  • Antibacterial Properties: Rosemary essential oil contains compounds like cineole and camphor known for their antibacterial properties. When used in home cleaners, it can help disinfect surfaces effectively.

  • Natural Deodorizer: The pleasant scent of rosemary can act as a natural deodorizer, eliminating unpleasant odors in various areas of your home, such as kitchens, bathrooms, or even carpets.

  • Mood Enhancement: The aroma of rosemary is often associated with improved mood and mental clarity. Cleaning with rosemary-based products can create a more pleasant and uplifting environment.

  • Potentially Insect-Repellent: Some studies suggest that rosemary essential oil may have insect-repellent properties. Using it in cleaning solutions might deter certain pests from your home. Rosemary helps to repel mosquitos, flies, and other pesky pests.

So, there you go. Not bad for a green shrub. I’d love to know how you use rosemary around your home.
